PATs Behavior in Pressurized Irrigation Hydrants towards Sustainability

Sustainability and efficiency in irrigation are essential the management of water–energy–food nexus to reach Sustainable Development Goals 2030. In systems, reduction energy consumption is required improve system consequently sustainability indicators water network. The use pumps working as turbines (PATs) has been a feasible solution recover excess where pressure valves installed. This research demonstrates PATs under steady unsteady conditions by analyzing application real networks located Vallada (Valencia, Spain). study shows possibility recovering 44 MWh/year using installed upstream hydrants. behavior PAT operation stand-alone recovery allowed analysis flow, head variation function rotational speed, well minimum capacitance self-excite generator resistive load electrical circuit. limit examined terms overpressure induced fast closure manoeuvre hydrants, runaway due disconnection from load.
